Here are some pictures of my fender from when we went out to Breakers on 12/13/03. I found out first hand that mother nature can be much stronger than solid objects, like body panels (specifically fenders). I managed to smack a wall of dirt where a root was, and, as you can see, the dirt and root won. But at this point it's too late to go back and change it, so I guess all I can say is "oh well" and make the best of it...
For the purposes of comparison, here's a picture of the driver's side fender that made it through undamaged...
